WITH Scunthorpe Scorpions about to commence their 2019 season, they have taken the unprecedented step of announcing their first signing for 2020 – brilliant young prospect Jordan Palin.

15-year-old Palin is eligible to ride in the Championship after he celebrates his 16th birthday on February 19th, 2020. He is a local lad, and lives in Driffield, near Hull.

He enjoyed considerable success in the British Youth Championship in 2018, starting in the 250cc class, and then graduating to the 500cc class, and he won his first-ever meeting in the 500cc class at Belle Vue.

He will ride for Belle Vue Colts in the 2019 National League, in which 15-year-olds are permitted to race.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I believe Jordan is a total gem, and so does Wayne Carter, who runs our training track and took Jordan under his wing around five years ago, when Jordan started racing.

“He would have been good enough to ride for us this year, but he’s not old enough. Belle Vue Colts have got a very special rider this season.

“We’ve done a deal for next season and I give my word that Jordan Palin will be handed the No 7 race-jacket for Scunthorpe for the 2020 season.

“In return, Jordan has pledged his long-term future to Scunthorpe, and I’m absolutely delighted about that.

“He’s absolutely committed and dedicated to his speedway career, and I firmly believe he has a long and successful career ahead of him.”

The announcement was made at the Meet The Riders event in the clubhouse following Press and Practice at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening.

Palin has subsequently tweeted: “Following the announcement that I have pledged my long-term future to Scunthorpe, I would like to thank my family, friends and sponsors for helping me on my journey.”
