JOSH AUTY, the No 1 for HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions, is set to become the first-ever Scunthorpe rider to score 3000 points for the club.

Auty top scored with paid 14 in the 49-41 victory over Edinburgh Monarchs on Sunday, scoring the most of his points from behind in typically thrilling fashion.

It took him to a total of 2997 points in all meetings for Scorpions, achieved in two different spells in 2005-2007 and 2012-2019.

He next rides for Scorpions in the home meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway against local rivals Sheffield Tigers on Good Friday (5.30pm).

The Yorkshireman made his debut for the club in September 2005, shortly after his 15th birthday, and is the only rider to win three league titles with Scorpions – the Conference League in 2006 and 2007, and Premier League in 2012.

Auty is well ahead of the second-place man, with David Howe on 2120 points, while Carl Wilkinson is third on 1837.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Josh Auty’s contribution to Scunthorpe Speedway has been immense, and he’s been part of nearly all the silverware we’ve won.

“It’s not just the number of points he’s scored – it’s the way that he has scored them. His trackcraft is superb and he never knows when he’s beaten.

“I’ve called him both Mr Scunthorpe and Mr Entertainment and he’s worthy of both those titles.”

SUPERB 1-2 FOR SCORPIONS’ PAIR

15-year-old Palin, who has already signed for Scorpions in 2020, picked up seven points in the qualifiers before finishing runner-up in both semi and final.

Both progress to the final at Berwick on April 27.
